Canada has updated its travel advice for Kenya following confirmation of an imported Ebola case in Nairobi linked to the Bundibugyo virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The revised guidance urges travellers to take precautions, monitor their health and follow local public health instructions. Canadian authorities advise visitors to avoid healthcare facilities in affected areas unless medical attention is necessary and to maintain good hygiene.

Travellers who have recently visited Kenya are also advised to monitor their health

for 21 days after leaving the country. The advisory states that anyone who develops symptoms associated with Ebola should isolate themselves from others and seek medical care immediately.

Canadian officials have further warned travellers against direct contact with suspected Ebola patients, contaminated materials and the bodies of people who may have died from Ebola or other unexplained illnesses. The update follows similar measures by other Western governments.

The United States has advised people who may have been exposed to the virus to monitor their health and seek medical advice if symptoms develop. The United Kingdom has also tightened its travel guidance for specific parts of Kenya.

Kenyan health authorities have sought to reassure the public and international visitors that the situation remains under control. Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has said the country remains open to tourists, investors and business travellers, stressing that an imported case does not necessarily indicate local transmission or a wider outbreak.

The Ministry of Health says 57 contacts linked to the confirmed case have been traced, with 10 people placed in quarantine as a precaution. Officials have said the response is based on scientific evidence and verified health information.

Authorities have also introduced enhanced screening at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for travellers arriving from 10 countries considered to pose a higher risk of Ebola exposure. The measures are intended to support early detection and limit the possibility of further transmission.

Kenya's position as a regional transport hub makes border surveillance an important part of its response. Health officials are seeking to identify potential cases early while preventing the virus from spreading within the country.

Canada's updated health guidance comes alongside its existing security advice for Kenya. Ottawa continues to recommend a high degree of caution because of terrorism threats and crime, while advising against travel to several border areas and other locations considered high risk.
