The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has dismissed online rumours about party leader Oburu Oginga’s health, saying he is recovering well and is expected to leave hospital within the next two days.

ODM Secretary General Catherine Omanyo rejected claims circulating on social media about Oburu's condition, including false reports of his death. She said the allegations were inaccurate and urged the public to rely on verified information rather than unconfirmed online posts.

Omanyo expressed concern over the spread of misleading reports, accusing some social media users of prioritising attention and engagement over factual information. She maintained that Oburu was in stable condition and making steady progress, with doctors expecting him to return home either on the day of her remarks or the following day.

She also reminded the public that illness is a normal part of life and can affect anyone, regardless of their position or public standing. She urged supporters to avoid treating routine health concerns as grounds for speculation about a person's condition.

The incident has highlighted the challenges political parties face in responding to health rumours about senior leaders. Claims about the wellbeing of public figures can spread rapidly online, sometimes before official updates are available. Such reports can cause unnecessary anxiety among supporters and place pressure on political organisations and families to clarify the situation.

Omanyo criticised speculation about Oburu's death, saying discussions about life and mortality should be approached with care. She argued that no one should be presumed dead or written off based on unverified claims, adding that such matters should not be turned into social media content.

Oburu assumed leadership of ODM following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in October 2025. Since then, he has played a central role in guiding the party through a period of transition as it prepares for future political contests.

His hospitalisation has therefore attracted interest from party members and the wider political community. However, ODM officials have sought to reassure supporters that his condition is improving and that the focus should remain on his recovery.

The party has not disclosed the nature of Oburu's illness, and Omanyo did not provide further medical details. She reiterated that the ODM leader was recovering and was expected to return home soon, dismissing the reports circulating online as unfounded.
