Canada Issues 3,500 Invitations to Healthcare and Social Services Workers

Canada issued 3,500 invitations to apply for permanent residency in its latest Express Entry draw for healthcare and social services professionals on 14 November.

The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required in this round was 462, down from 472 in October. The lower threshold reflects the larger number of invitations and the government’s ongoing focus on recruiting workers in critical sectors.

The draw was completed at 11:53:39 UTC, with the tie-breaking rule applied to candidates who submitted their profiles on or before 2 December 2024, giving priority to earlier applicants in cases of identical scores. The CRS evaluates candidates based on education, work experience, language skills and adaptability.

Only those meeting or exceeding the cut-off receive invitations to apply. Scores vary between rounds, and applicants are advised to monitor and update their profiles to maintain competitiveness.

Eligibility in the healthcare and social services category requires at least six months of full-time work experience, or the part-time equivalent, in designated occupations. Candidates must also demonstrate they have performed the lead responsibilities and most core duties described in the National Occupational Classification, including all essential tasks.

These standards ensure applicants have the practical skills and experience necessary to contribute effectively to Canada’s healthcare and social care systems.

The increase from 2,500 invitations in October to 3,500 in November signals a targeted effort to address labour shortages in these sectors.

The lower CRS requirement also allows a broader range of qualified professionals to apply. As of 9 November, the distribution of CRS scores in the candidate pool demonstrates the competitive nature of the process. While many applicants score highly, the reduced cut-off shows the government balancing selectivity with the urgent need for skilled workers.

Prospective migrants are encouraged to prepare thoroughly, as future draws may vary in size and score requirements.
