Ruto Rejects Calls to Rejoin ODM, Reaffirms Loyalty to UDA

President William Ruto has ruled out a return to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), insisting he remains committed to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Speaking at the ODM Founders Dinner in Mombasa on Saturday, Ruto said he would continue working with ODM but stressed that his political home is UDA. His appearance, featuring a yellow Kaunda suit and an orange hat, was intended to reflect this balance.

He joked that the outfit reassured UDA supporters of his loyalty while acknowledging ODM’s role in his broader political agenda. Ruto’s remarks responded to Kisii Governor Simba Arati, ODM’s deputy party leader, who has repeatedly urged him to return to the party he helped form.

Arati has argued that Ruto’s comeback would honour ODM’s legacy after the death of Raila Odinga and position him as a potential presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election. He has also extended similar appeals to former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, describing the effort as part of safeguarding Odinga’s legacy and supporting continuity in national leadership.

Although Ruto dismissed the idea of rejoining ODM, he pledged continued cooperation, pointing to ODM members in his Cabinet as evidence of his administration’s inclusivity. He assured party leaders that ODM would keep receiving institutional support within the government.
