Authorities in Massachusetts are seeking relatives of Kenyan national Joachim “Jimmy” Waweru Nganga, who died in Boston nearly three weeks ago.

His remains are being held by state officials pending contact with a family member who can authorise his release and final arrangements. Jimmy was known to have connections in both the United States and Kenya, but authorities have so far been unable to identify or reach his immediate family. His remains cannot be released for burial until a relative has been located and contacted.

The appeal has been extended to the Kenyan diaspora across the United States and to people in Kenya who may have known Jimmy or have information about his family. Community leaders and friends are urging former colleagues, neighbours and acquaintances to come forward with any information that could help identify his relatives.

They are also asking people to share the appeal through Kenyan community groups, churches and online networks. Even limited information could help authorities establish contact with Jimmy’s family and allow arrangements for his burial to proceed.

The case highlights the difficulties that can arise when immigrants die far from their home countries without close relatives nearby. In such circumstances, diaspora communities can play an important role in helping authorities trace family members and ensure that those who die abroad are treated with dignity.

Anyone with information that could help locate Jimmy’s family is asked to contact the authorities on 617-579-7443. Officials are urging those who may have relevant information to make contact as soon as possible so that the necessary arrangements can be made.
