Kenya has appointed Ambassador Irene Maswan as Deputy High Commissioner in London, marking a new phase in its diplomatic engagement with the United Kingdom.

Maswan takes up the position as Kenya seeks to strengthen its relationship with Britain across trade, investment, education and security. Development partnerships and cultural exchanges also remain important areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The United Kingdom is a key partner for Kenya in regional and international affairs and is home to one of the country’s largest diaspora communities. The contribution of Kenyans living in Britain to national development has become an increasingly important part of bilateral engagement.

The Kenyan High Commission has welcomed Maswan’s appointment, highlighting her experience and leadership as important assets to the mission. As Deputy High Commissioner, she will work with British government officials, institutions and other stakeholders to advance Kenya’s diplomatic priorities.

Her responsibilities will also include engagement with the Kenyan diaspora in the UK. The community plays an important role in Kenya’s social and economic links with Britain and remains a key part of the country’s wider diplomatic outreach.

Maswan begins her tenure as Kenya looks to expand cooperation with the UK in areas of mutual interest. The focus will include strengthening existing partnerships while identifying new opportunities for collaboration in response to changing global conditions.

Her appointment also reflects Kenya’s efforts to strengthen its international presence through diplomatic engagement. The government is seeking to use its diplomatic missions to attract investment, promote innovation and build stronger international partnerships.

Maswan’s arrival at the London mission is therefore expected to support both government-to-government relations and engagement with the Kenyan community in Britain. Her role comes as Kenya continues to develop a foreign policy focused on expanding its global partnerships and supporting national development.
