Kenyans in Diaspora Ask President Uhuru to Dissolve Parliament After CJ Maraga’s Advisory
Kenyans in the diaspora have called on President Kenyatta to act on Chief Justice David Maraga’s advice to dissolve Parliament.
On Monday, Maraga asked Uhuru to disband the Senate and the National Assembly for failing to enact legislation required to implement the two-thirds gender rule for nine years.
Kenyans abroad through their lobby—Kenya Diaspora Alliance (KDA)—have warned that failure to act on the CJ’s advisory could throw the country into uncertainty and stall services at key government departments.
"A democratic state is governed by laws and that means respecting decisions that result from the law. The President should either follow the advisory, and dissolve parliament, or at least have it challenged in court," KDA Global Chairperson Dr. Shem Ochuodho said in a statement.
"Anything to the contrary is impunity. Our view is the President should heed the position of the CJ and dissolve parliament."
KDA further stated that owing to the advisory, Parliament should suspend all operations until the matter is settled.
"The Speakers should put on hold any parliamentary proceedings because as it stands, Parliament is adjourned. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should also pause," Ochuodho added.
KDA said the president should heed to Maraga’s call and dissolve the August House, stating that this will pave the way for amendment of some sections of the Constitution to define the rights and obligations of Kenyans living abroad.
"The diaspora, despite forming about 15 percent of eligible voters, have no representation in Parliament. They have voting rights but they don't enjoy them," he said.
President Kenyatta is yet to respond to CS Maraga’s advisory.

Which group is this Kenya Diaspora Alliance (KDA). I do not been asked about my opinion and my contribution to the corrupt Kenya. Can Maraga tell me why his courts are corrupt and why does case take long to be settled. Tell him to mind his business in handling court proceeding and then can come and advise of Parliment been disolved...

Stop discrimination. South Sudan is diaspora, even though it is a failed state. I don't understand why someone would leave their country to go to South Sudan. I have there, before independence and they did not have bathrooms, we showered in makeshift rooms, God forbid, it's a hole in the wall kind of country
There is NO KENYANS INDISPORA as an organization. We failed to establish one. We are just the same as Kenyans in Kenya. If one was corrupt in Kenya, he carried the corrupt mind with him to the Airport. However, we have small groups of like minds and mostly charitable to help the needy back home with school fees, food and sometimes shelter.No Media house including Mwakilishi should present a picture like Diaspora has one voice. Maybe a group of diasporians and give their name and location. We have seen misinformed Government officers coming to abroad to meet Kenyans only to be hosted by a personal friend and his few associates in their backyards.The most organized diaspora groups are Churches which have no connections between themselves as they are honestly competitors.
As for myself, asking the President to dissolve the Government is an insult on his face. It is tantamount to telling him that he has terribly failed in his leadership and must resign before his term. Which can be interpreted to mean Ruto should take over. Much as I agree the President has failed drastically in this shameful BBI brainwash, the President has done good and wonderful projects for Kenya and should be politely advised to get back on track and retire honorably in 2022.
