IEBC to Register Diaspora Voters in 11 Countries in December

IEBC to Register Diaspora Voters in 11 Countries in December

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is set to launch a mass voter registration drive ahead of next year’s elections.

The exercise, which targets between six to seven million new voters, will be carried out in the country and the diaspora.

A 30-day nationwide voter registration exercise will commence on October 4th while the listing of Kenyans abroad will be done in December.

The diaspora listing will take place in 11 countries among them South Sudan, the USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Africa.

IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati said the countries meet the minimum requirement of 3,000 voters. Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Africa participated in the 2017 election

IEBC made the announcement during a meeting with members of Faith-Based Organizations at a Nairobi hotel on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Chebukati raised concerns over what he termed as the meddling of the commission’s affairs by politicians.

“The interference exposes [IEBC] commissioners to ethnic profiling, consequently making them insecure and susceptible to attacks,” he said.

He also urged the Treasury to allocate the electoral body sufficient funds ahead of the 2022 general election.

“Over the years, the Commission’s funding has not been adequate and in tandem with the electoral cycle. For instance, this year, we asked for Sh40. 9 billion to conduct the 2022 General Election, but got Sh26 billion,” he said.

This country of ours is lead by idiots who just wake and throw a wrench anywhere and hope things will be fine. The last time I checked, people in the Diaspora could not vote. So now they will register for what? Are they allowed to vote? Is a Diaspora a county of it's own or how does this work. I am not registering for crap!

Someone is tying to manipulate the 2022 voting from overseas! They want to send fake votes from the diaspora to influence and hype numbers for DP Ruto. Nothing should be trusted here! Your point is valid @kibogoyo and we should all be worried!!

Chebukati does not look like the most intelligent guy to succefully conduct voting outside Kenya! There are more than enough voters inside Kenya!

How is he going to ensure secure voting outside Kenya while he has bangled every election he has conducted in Kenya?? Is Chebukati bed with UDA to steal the 2022 election for Ruto through fake votes from the diaspora?

If anyone in those 11 countries wants to vote so bad, they should get in a plane and head back to their counties of origin to vote there!

Chebukati has made EIBC a money swallowing machinery for no particular reason. 22 billion shillings is more than enough to handle all the administrative business conducted by EIBC. This Chebukati is up to something, and he should be closely monitored!!!

I hope it is for real this time. We have been promised this a couple of times before, to no avail.

Kibogoyo this is a way of vote harvesting, the votes will be more than people in diaspora.

  7. MwanikiSep 25, 2021

I have said this many times before that Ruto intends to steal the election from the diaspora!

Chebukati is being used by Ruto to harvest votes from the diaspora! It is all a pre planned affair by ruto!

Why do you think Ruto has be opening offices across the USA? The offices will be used as the vote stealing centers!

That is where fake votes will be minted and shipped back to Kenya for counting! The fake votes will be in millions!

This arrangement is null and void! The diaspora votes are invalid!

Anyone in the diaspora who wants to vote can go back to kenya to vote in his county! Hii ni ukora wa Ruto! They can buy a discounted ticket now when the tickets are cheap and affordable!

Voting should be conducted in the embassies but this does not mean no stealing . In country so divided and Uhuru declaring he is for Oginga ( which is not done) supporting an opposition candidate. means the government has the upper hand and our votes will indeed be manipulated and we should not vote unless we are the ones who will be involved in the counting the , and only send the results and not be told they will be sent with diplomatic bags . No we want to count the votes ourselves . The embassy staff should stay out of it except facilitating the process. Otherwise stay home and enjoy your day don't help them to steal , don't let them use you .
