US-Based Kenyan Scholar Appointed Nyeri County's Honorary Ambassador

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has appointed US-based Kenyan scholar Prof. Peter Ndiang’ui as the county’s Honorary Ambassador.

In a statement, Governor Kahiga said the position empowers Prof. Ndiang’ui to represent Nyeri in the diaspora matters, particularly in areas of education, tourism, environmental sustainability, trade, infrastructure, agriculture, good governance, and any other sectoral responsibility assigned by the governor or his appointee.

“The appointment takes place with immediate effect,” read the statement.

Prof. Ndiang’ui, a resident of Fort Myers, Florida, serves as a professor at Florida Gulf Coast University’s College of Education. He has been instrumental in helping Kenyan students to join the M.Ed Curriculum and Instruction program.

The scholar has also initiated and supported a number of projects in Nyeri County, including a community tech center (with 11 computers) in his home village of Mathakwaini in Tetu. He serves as the patron of the local primary school.

Along with Diaspora One Voice Consortium affiliated member organizations, he has also been instrumental in supporting the Neema Children Center in Kieni with school uniforms and providing relief food during the drought crisis last year.

In Fort Myers, Ndiang’ui serves as the President of the African Network of SW Florida and the Chair of the Mayor’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. He is also the Executive Director of the Diaspora One Voice Consortium (OVC), the umbrella organization of more than 100 diaspora organizations spread out across the world.

Prof. Ndiang’ui has many awards to his name including the Keeper of the Dream Award given to people who have been identified to further the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He also bagged the Lighthouse Award two years in a row and is also a medal winner of the World Harmony Run.

To enable him to perform the duties assigned to him, Prof. Ndiang’ui is putting together a Nyeri County Diaspora Advisory Committee (NC-DAC) and has invited interested persons to contact him via email at pndiangui3@aol.com or call (404) 759 3604.  Those interested should submit a short bio before February 15th, 2023.

Deeply humbled and honored. Through this appointment, we managed to send 15 needy high achieving students to high school. Thank you all for the support.

The appointment was yesterday, may be you used other programs to support the high school students, but not this appointment. However, congratulations on this appointment. Also, remind your fellow workers that they are selected to serve, not to be served.

Congratulations for the appointment. We need to focus on low standards of Nyeri education right from pre-primary to Tertiary Institutions, particularly Primary and Secondary Level. I would like to have a virtual meeting with your team at diaspora. I am the current Chairman of Nyeri County Education Board (CEB-National Government) closely working with County Government of Nyeri and other Education Stakeholders.
