Man Jailed for Stealing Money From Missing Kenyan Girlfriend in the US

Nathan Hightman, the ex-boyfriend of Irene Gakwa, was on Wednesday, June 14 sentenced to six years in Prison.

Hightman pleaded guilty to stealing and misusing Gakwa's credit card which was presented as evidence in the hearing. In the case heard at Campbell County District Court in Gillette, Wyoming, the accused was sentenced to serve six years in prison for felony theft and unlawful use of a credit card.

Gakwa, a 25-year-old Kenyan immigrant, was last seen in Gillette, Wyoming, on March 1, 2022. One month later, Hightman was arrested on suspicion of stealing thousands of dollars from Gakwa, weeks after her disappearance. He was also accused of using her credit cards, withdrawing funds from her bank account, and selling some of her possessions. The prosecution claimed that Hightman withdrew Sh518,000 ($3,700) from Gakwa's bank account and spent Ksh452,000 ($3,230) on her credit card.

Hightman admitted that he had taken the funds and sold Gakwa's belongings, but refuted claims linking him to Gakwa's disappearance. Investigators said Hightman changed Gakwa’s banking account password and deleted her email account. Gakwa's family have maintained that Hightman is responsible for her disappearance, further hoping that the search mission would bring a positive result.

Gakwa moved from Kenya to attend nursing school in the Boise, Idaho, area, where her two older brothers live. She met Hightman on a Craigslist forum and moved to Gillette with him in July 2021. Gakwa's family last had contact with her on a video call on February 24, 2022.

I am not a lawyer but my intelligent guess would be there is enough circumstantial evidence to link this man to her death. Then again, we are talking about a country that had once classified black people as 4/5th human.

You are forgetting they had Negro soup. They would sell tickets in Church.

Lynching was done after Church. They would make Negro soup with certain body parts.

White trash of a Man. And she Should have Picked up on That; and Ran before he "Killed" her or Made her Disappear.

MakOnyango, you may not be a lawyer, but your reasoning is "lawyerly'.If you think about it, in some cases circustancial evidence is more 'powerful, and reliable",since it's not influenced by mistaken identity,or people lying,or paid to conceal evidence. My two cents.

Jail and Prison are 2 different Institutions.
    Jail: While waiting for Verdict
    Prison: After verdict for Incarceration

I am sure that the prosecutors are still looking for that one convincing evidence, real or circumstantial, to nail this murderer beyond reasonable doubt to a jury! Now that the murderer is going to prison for robbing the victim, it’s highly likely that there will be a SNITCH within prison walls to finally crack open the case! Watch this space

Gakwa's family only need a good lawyer to argue their case. They cannot successful proof that he stole from her, but fail to connect him with her disappearance. He was able to steal from her after killing her, and possibly forcing her to give her pins and password. Should have been a brutal torturous murder. But white people knows how to cover up one of their own. His white lawyer asked him to plead guilty for steal other than murder, which could have led to a death sentence of at least four life sentences. That is how America works: the darker you are......
