I think the essence of this story is not the rather short time this couple was apart, I think it is more of the girlfriend's success in a getting a visa. How many of us here who had girlfriends before we left the motherland and forgot all about them after landing in the new land and not because we didn't care, but because we became too busy with the hustles and bustles of life to a point that person we left behind was no longer a big priority? Na imagine hatukuwa na makware.

Younger generations getting softer and softer. Just like sports, military etc. Their parents age mates left for diaspora those years of post cards and mail and left behind wives and kids. Returned years later and picked up their lives together whether the woman had new odd looking baby or not.
