President Ruto Donates Sh1 Million to Support ODM Youth Trip to Mombasa

President William Ruto has donated Sh1 million to help Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth travel to Mombasa for the party’s 20th anniversary celebrations.

Lang’ata MP Felix Odiwuor, also known as Jalang’o, announced the contribution during an ODM meeting in Nairobi. He said he had informed the President that several young ODM supporters wished to attend the event but lacked funds, and Ruto responded immediately by offering financial support.

The announcement was received with excitement among the youth, who welcomed it as a rare moment of goodwill across party lines. On Thursday morning, the Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway terminus was filled with colour and music as delegates prepared to travel to Mombasa.

Supporters waved orange flags, wore traditional attire, and danced to Isikuti drums, creating a festive atmosphere. Many carried portraits of Raila Odinga, marking both celebration and remembrance following the ODM leader’s recent passing.

ODM has been encouraging strong attendance at the anniversary events, urging members to book SGR tickets early and travel together. Party communications director Philip Etale circulated notices advising that tickets would be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

The slogan “Let’s SGR together!” has become a unifying call among supporters seeking to honour Raila’s legacy.

The three-day celebrations, scheduled from 14 to 16 November, will feature rallies, cultural performances, and community activities across Mombasa. Acting party leader Oburu Odinga described the anniversary as a tribute to Raila Odinga, calling him “the father of modern democracy in Kenya”, whose leadership shaped the party’s journey.
