IEBC Confirms Candidates and Polling Stations for November 27 By-Elections
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has formalised arrangements for the 27 November 2025 by-elections.
The commission has issued Gazette Notices that confirm the list of candidates, polling stations, tallying centres, and uncontested seats. According to the notices published on 31 October, no voting will take place in Mitkei and Tembelio wards, where the nominated candidates were unopposed.
In line with electoral regulations, these candidates will assume office without a ballot, a step the Commission says promotes transparency and prevents unnecessary expenditure in areas without competition. The publication of the official notices marks a key stage in the by-election process, providing clear guidance for candidates, political parties, and voters.
It also serves to prevent misinformation and affirm the Commission’s commitment to open and credible electoral management. The clarification follows an earlier incident on 24 October, when a falsified gazette notice circulated online claiming that two United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidates had already been declared winners in the Tembelio and Metkei wards.
The IEBC later dismissed the document as fake, confirming that no such declaration had been made at that time. In its statement, the Commission reaffirmed its commitment to a peaceful and transparent process and urged all political players to comply with the Electoral Code of Conduct.
It also called for orderly campaigns and adherence to official procedures ahead of the November mini-polls.
