Joseph Njata: Grief as 47-Year-Old Kenyan Is Found Floating in Washington Lake

The body of 47-year-old Joseph Njata was recovered from Medical Lake in Washington State earlier this week after a passer-by reported seeing a person floating near the southern end of the lake, close to South Lefevre Street.

Authorities are investigating the death, but initial findings do not indicate foul play.

Emergency crews responded to the scene after receiving the report and recovered the body with assistance from detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and a specialist dive team.

Investigators said preliminary examinations have not found evidence of foul play. However, the exact cause and manner of death remain under investigation by the medical examiner.

Njata is survived by his three daughters, Sharon, Stycie and Zaria. He is also remembered by relatives and friends as a devoted father and a valued member of the Kenyan-American community.

Family members have appealed for financial and emotional support as they prepare for his funeral. Donations are being collected to help cover funeral expenses and ensure he receives a dignified burial. The family has also asked for prayers and support during this difficult time.

The death has deeply affected members of the Kenyan diaspora in the United States, who have paid tribute to Njata's commitment to his family and community. Friends and relatives have described him as a dependable and caring person whose loss will be widely felt.

As the investigation continues, members of the community are supporting the family through fundraising efforts, vigils and messages of condolence.
