The US Department of State has launched an online portal allowing members of the public to report suspected visa fraud, as American authorities strengthen efforts to detect and investigate immigration-related offences.

The department announced the initiative on Monday, 19 October, saying the platform would enable individuals to submit information about people suspected of obtaining or using US visas unlawfully. The reports will be assessed by officials and referred for investigation where necessary.

The portal allows members of the public to provide details about suspected cases, including names, passport numbers, visa information, contact details and residential addresses. Reports can also be submitted anonymously, allowing people to share information without revealing their identities.

The new system could affect how visa applications are reviewed, including those submitted by Kenyans travelling to the US for education, business, tourism or immigration. Although legitimate applicants are not directly targeted by the initiative, information received through the portal could lead to further checks if authorities consider it credible enough to warrant investigation.

The launch comes as the US government continues to strengthen immigration enforcement and address the misuse of visas. Officials have argued that closer monitoring is necessary to protect the integrity of the immigration system and identify cases that might not be detected through routine screening.

The State Department has also warned visa applicants against providing false information or submitting forged documents. Such violations can lead to investigations and restrictions on future travel to the United States.
